My opinion will forever stay the same in this topic about cheerleaders being paid what they currently get paid. It’s unfair. There is no argument to this topic if it was me I would not be out there putting in those hours to only make $1,800. I understand it is a side job and is only part time but still $2.25 an hour is absolutely ridiculous. In the first article it talks about 1 ticket being $3,000 and that one ticket is almost the salary of two cheerleaders for a full season. These girls get up and stay in shape and go to practice and cheer for these teams and are part of a football game where they are the lowest paid person in the stadium. That is more than unfair if the mascot can make up to $100,000 a season then these girls can make at least $25,000 a season for all that they do. I understand that if they know what they are getting paid ahead of time that they cannot be upset and start to come in and sue the team but that still doesn’t make it wrong and doesn’t mean that they don’t need to change this around the league. There needs to be a minimum set that each cheerleader can make and it only goes up from their based off of years and experience and extra work. Personally I don’t think teams are trying to keep wages low I think they are staying low because no one high up has made the point to be like ok here let’s just pay them (insert whatever wage you think would be feasible here). People are not going to pay people more if they know they can get away with the $2.25 that they have been paying them forever even though it is wrong and something should be done. Money is crucial in a business like football and you’re not going to win unless you put it right in there face and tell them they are wrong and they are going to lose a pivotal part of the game if this wrong is not righted. It’s a fight that needs to be fought and I think these girls deserve a lot more. It may only be for part of the year but it is a full time job in season and they should be paid like it is one. These girls are the face for advertisements and everything that surrounds the game of football so for them to be treated as they are is absolutely irrational and I can’t wrap my head around it. Some of this knowledge may be news to some of you reading and your opinion may be different but I honestly cannot imagine being expected to do so much and be paid so little. I surprised more girls have not quit and just said screw it to the organization for getting away with such craziness. I know that some of these girls are afraid that the NFL will just do away with cheerleaders in a whole if they request to be paid more but as we have seen in the past this may not be true. Multiple girls have stood up to this and have gotten what they deserve but I do believe something needs to be done in a whole and they need to be paid much more for all that they do for this organization. I know with all the money being made they can spare more for the girls that go out to every game and give it their all and even go out and do events during time that is not related to the game. I’m hoping that whoever is reading at this moment can see my point of view and can sympathize with these girls and respect them on another level now that you know how much they do for so little just to keep this NFL tradition alive.
